Obituary of Morrell E. Bunbury

Morrell “Bumbo” Bunbury: father, soccer player, entrepreneur, chef, music connoisseur, accomplished world traveler, died on Thursday, February 25Th, 2016 in his Brooklyn New York home. Morrell was a congenial man who brought joy into every room that he entered. He was an oral traditionalist and a fierce lover and protector of his children, family and friends. The Man Morrell “Bumbo” Egland Bunbury was born in Plaisance , Guyana on August 29th, 1952. He was born to Harry and Doreen Bunbury and was the sixth of thirteen children. As a child Morrell developed a deep passion for football and played for Kent Football Club (amongst other clubs) where he was one of the top players/scorers for his team and country. Morrell was a star whose light shone brightly from the time he was born to the time he took his final breath. The Father In 1978 at 25 years old Morrell immigrated to Montreal, Canada and shortly thereafter to New York City. He attended Iona College where he received a certification in building and construction. He worked for NYC Housing and Preservation & Development for over 25 years of distinguished service and ultimately retired as a supervisor. While in Brooklyn he met his first wife Birget Bunbury and got married. He subsequently remarried Nestar Bunbury and later divorced. He fathered a total of five children: Morrell Elory Bunbury, Shavon Ann Bunbury-Ramdeen, Felicia Allison Bunbury, Esq., Christopher Marcell Ernest Bunbury, and Heather Rachael Bunbury. He had four grandchildren: Zoey Alexus Bunbury, Aryana Brooklyn Bunbury, Jazz-Lynn Selena Bunbury and Gabriella Stroud. Morrell was a family man in every sense of the word. He passed on his love of soccer, cooking and laughter to all of his children. He taught his kids good work ethic, to never place anything above family and that the world can be changed simply by helping the person right next to you. He would give the shirt off of his back, a room at his home and the last food off his plate without hesitation to a perfect stranger. Morrell was extremely close with all of his brothers and sisters and held close relationships with his very large extended family which includes numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly and welcomed with open arms into his heart. To know Morrell was to love Morrell and as a result he had many friends far and wide. His kindness was infectious, his humor was medicinal, and his story telling ability was theatrical. He had a special gift which made everyone feel comfortable, accepted and special to him in their own way. The Entrepreneur Morrell was business minded as a result he engaged in many business ventures. He owned/ co-owned three Caribbean restaurants in Brooklyn. The most notable of the three was Cafe Doré which he owned with his brother Samuel and named after his mother Doreen. He was a professional chef and catered hundreds of events and parties and quickly became known as “Chef Bumbo”. Morrell also owned a successful construction company for many years with his brother-in law Millbury Construction. The Final Chapter We are all going to have to deal with loss in our lives. We all must experience its sharp and unforgiving edges. He entered his rest in the arms of Jesus Christ. Morrell’s spirit is at peace and awaits the sound of the last trumpet’s call, when the dead in God shall rise to eternal life with an immortal body.
