My Aunt Joann was one of the kindest, sweetest and most generous human beings on this Earth and she will be missed more than words can ever express.
She spent her life always caring about and looking after her family, always putting everyone else's needs before her own - sometimes to a fault. She sacrificed so much of herself to make sure her children - my cousins Josh and Ashleigh - were always taken care of. All she ever wanted was for everyone in our family to be safe, happy and ok in this life.
Holidays were mostly celebrated at her home where it was always very special.
I will miss her terribly. This is not a fate that someone like her deserved. A least now she can be at peace with God and with Mommy, Nana, Poppy, Great Grandma, Uncle Tony and everyone else that we loved that had to leave this Earth.
I love you, Aunt Jo, and we are all going to miss you deeply.

Dear Sonny, Josh & Ash,
Our sincerest condolences and prayers go out to you and your extended family. I am so sorry to hear of Joann's illness and passing. She was a beautiful soul. I am very happy I was able to visit with her. I had the privilege of becoming friends with your mom at S&C. We had a great group of people. The S&C group pretty much grew up together... we supported each other through good and bad and plenty of department collections. Jojo and I shared plenty of cab rides home from work and long talks. She always kept up with everyone's goings on and was always the first to help and offer a helping hand.
Your mom was kind to a fault, generous, loving, caring, honest and the most decent person you could meet. She loved you all tremendously... it was always about your family and you kids. Her devotion to her mom and to her sisters was unquestionable.
She is in a better place but the loss is no less tragic. Take care of yourselves and each other. Josh & Ash, make your mom proud as you live your young lives. Know that there are many people your mom blessed with her friendship and even though you don't "know" us, we are praying for you and thinking of you.
with lots of love,
Maddy DiGioia & family

I was shocked and greatly saddened to learn of Joann's passing. We sat opposite one another at work and I knew her goodness for many, many years. She was a true Saint! Her love and caring for her family, her friends and life was reflected in how she loved animals and took care of strays in her neighborhood. You couldn't find a finer human being on this planet. Everything she touched glowed with her inner beauty. She was selfless in everything she did. I will miss her greatly and express my sincere condolences to her family and loved ones. May she rest in peace in God's loving embrace for all of Eternity.

My heart goes out to Joann's family and friends. We shared many a dinner at our job, with several other colleagues. She was a truly decent, caring person with a great love of animals. A nurturing, good friend and a hard worker, she has been greatly missed since she retired five years ago, in 2012.
Joann came all the way to the Bronx for my own Mother's funeral Mass, accompanied by several friends from work. The sight of her there struck me at the time with an overwhelming sense of love and gratitude -- that she/they would travel so far, and so out-of-the way, for someone she didn't know. But that was Joann. I will always cherish this, and them, and my dear friend. There's an ache in my heart for this very good soul. She is free now, and we are at a loss, for we cannot see her smiling face.

I love you so much Aunt Joann. I'm really gonna miss you. You never hurt anyone. You were the sweetest person alive & always showed me love. I have years of memories. I'll never forget you my sweetest Aunt. You're with your sister now(my mom) I know she came & picked you up when it was time to transition into your next phase. You're with many beautiful people now in great hands, including your parents. I'm so sorry for my cousins Josh & Ashleigh who lost their mother way too early. I love you both so much. Stay strong no matter what. Look after each other & your father. You know, I was walking home from the train station last night thinking about my Aunt. That particular block is pretty filthy. As I was thinking...I smelled the scent of roses. There were no flowers of any kind in the area. I researched what that could possibly mean. It's said that it's the odor of Sanctity, a phenomenon attributed to a miraculous fragrance coming from a holy person, such as a saint. Christians believe that the scent, which smells like roses, is a sign of holiness & usually occurs after the death of a saint. It makes perfect sense that I smelled roses after my Aunt Joann's passing. She WAS a saint. I smelled the same after my mother passed. I remember it clearly. R.I.P. Aunt Joann. I'll never, ever forget you...
PS: Please look after Aunt Maria. She's battling illness combined with the loss of her only 2 sisters. Her best friends. I know you will & she'll get through this..
