Obituary of Howard J. McAlman
Howard José McAlman was born on July 1, 1943 in Panama City, Panama to the late Alwin McAlman and the late Quintina Jimenez. He passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.
José attended the Escuela Puerto Rico in Carrasquilla before immigrating to the United States in 1958 to join his father and his beloved aunt, Ruth McAlman, in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Lefferts Junior High School before earning his high school diploma from Automotive High School. José joined the United States Army in 1964, earning a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal during his time in service. After leaving the U.S. Army in 1967, he worked for the E. Leitz Company of New Jersey. José then joined the Kinney Parking Company in 1974 where he worked until he retired in 2003. He proudly became a U.S. citizen on August 5, 2005.
José leaves to cherish his memory: his son Eric McAlman; grandchildren Eric McAlman Jr., Nicholas McAlman, and Melissa McAlman; his sisters Maria Teresa Quintero, Julieta Ayee, Silvia Narvaez, Leonila Jimenez, Tina McAlman and Carol McAlman; his brothers Roberto McAlman, Carlos Aizpurúa and Alwin (Mel) McAlman; his Salgado siblings residing in Panama City, Panama; several nieces and nephews and a multitude of cousins and friends in the U.S. and abroad.
Although José was a quiet man, he enjoyed conversing with his family and friends. He would always ask how you were doing on your job, how your car was running and what you thought of politics! He loved horse racing, spending many days off at the track with family and friends. He could always be counted upon by his family and friends to lend a hand when needed. José will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
