Obituary of Philip Turnbull
Phil Turnbull, 68, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the presence of his loving children. Phil was born July 10, 1949 in Brooklyn, New York to Philip J. Turnbull and Mary Tinney. On April 18, 1970, Phil married the love of his life, Patricia Darby, at St. Brendan’s Church in Brooklyn, New York.
Phil graduated from Xaverian High School in Brooklyn, NY in 1966 and immediately began working an entry level position at Bunker-Ramo. His strong work ethic and desire to provide for his family allowed him to retire as a Senior Vice President from ADP (the successor of Bunker-Ramo) in 2004. While raising his children in Wallingford, CT and Marlton, NJ, Phil volunteered countless hours coaching and advancing youth athletics in the community. He enjoyed history, cooking, traveling, and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.
Phil is survived by his four children, Darby McChesney (husband Matthew), Philip John Turnbull III (wife Hilary), Christopher Turnbull (wife Aimee) and Megan Fackler (husband Greg), eleven grandchildren Matthew, Aidan, Jackson, Christopher, Gavin, Colin, Payton, Logan, Maeve, Delaney and Elizabeth and siblings, Barbara, James and Mary. Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, parents, Philip and Mary, and brother, Gregory.
Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at St. Thomas More at 9:30 AM (204-25 Rockaway Point Blvd., Breezy Point, NY 11697). Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery (391 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island NY 10309).
The family invites all to a celebration of Phil’s life from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Breezy Point Catholic Club (204-10 Rockaway Point Blvd., Breezy Point, NY 11697).
