Obituary of Delia Faherty Rogers
Delia Rogers (nee Faherty)
February 19, 1926 ~June 27, 2018
It is with our deepest sympathy we announce the passing of Delia Rogers. She was given the name of Brigid Faherty when she was born to Brigid (nee Halloran) & Patrick Faherty on February 19, 1926 in Coolacloy, Kingstown, Clifden Co. Galway. Tragically within weeks of Brigid's birth, her mother passed away. Brigid's father Patrick, was a carpenter who suffered a severe injury where he lost his eye. He was advised to find a safe place for his four young children, hence a few months after her mothers passing, Brigid, along with her sister Emily were sent to St. Joseph's Orphanage in Clifden, where Brigid's name was changed to Delia. Her two older brothers John and Martin were placed in the St. Joseph's Industrial School/Boys Orphanage in Letterfrack, Galway. In April of 1949, Delia emigrated to Brooklyn, where she lived with her Uncle Thomas & Aunt Alice Faherty and went on to pursue a career as a hairdresser at the Wilfred Beauty Academy. One night at a dance in Park Slope she met a handsome young Irishman from Scariff, Co. Clare who happened to be on leave from his service in the Korean War and visiting family in Brooklyn.
Within a year and a half, Delia went on to marry John Joseph Rogers and settle in Brooklyn.
Delia and John raised three loving children, Andrew, Eileen, and Sheila.

Delia was a courageous woman who shared her love of her Irish culture
and dance with family, friends, and all those she encountered.

She was welcomed into heaven by her husband, John, her siblings and their spouse's, John & Hilda, Martin & Maureen and their son P.J. and Emily & John. Delia would always tell her children and grandchildren that she knew one day, she would finally get to meet her mother to hug and love her and she said that the only mother she's ever known, Mother Mercy Bryon ("Mellie"), who lovingly cared for her when she was a baby, would introduce her to her mother.
Her stories, love and laughter is remembered fondly by her children,
Andrew Rogers, Eileen Joyce and her husband Gerard,
Sheila DeFonzo and her husband, Guy.
Delia was the loving ‘Nannie’ of Christopher Joyce, Kaitie Scarlett Fitzpatrick and her husband, Tyler, P.J. DeFonzo, Brigid Joyce,
Jake DeFonzo, Patrick Joyce and Timmie DeFonzo.
She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews,
