Dear Eileen, Patrick, and family,
My heart aches for you today. I hope that the many happy family memories can soon lift your spirits. Mary's family gave her joy, pride, and love through the years.
During the 1970s your mom was a powerful figure in my teen years. She amazed me as she gave you, her children, guidance and supervision, but also enough space to grow (... or was it enough rope on which to hang? Hmmm...) I recall the encouragement and excitement she shared as Eileen and I planned our 1974 journey to Ireland. She fed me many delicious, well-planned meals at her table. She was a foodie before the word existed, but she also knew how to make the most of her food budget. She introduced me to lamb chops and the fine art of eating artichokes. I also remember her adventure of buying a new coat at Martin's department store in downtown Brooklyn, making the most of a certain teen's employee discount. She helped to raise more than just her three children.
Today she is with dear loved ones she has missed. Your care and love sustained her these past years. Her love lives on in you.
