I met John through the Summit Old Guard seven or eight years ago. As I got to know him better, over a number of lunches, we discovered we had a fair amount in common and became good friends. John encouraged me to volunteer at a tax assistance program for seniors and lower income folks (VITA), that he was involved with for years. John was very giving with his time and always willing to help others.
Through my relationship with John, I got to know his sister, Joanne. Over the last few years, during John's decline in health, we became friends as well and had a number of worthwhile conversations on how to best support John. Due to his health, John had to stop coming to Old Guard meetings, so I've been missing him for a few years already. His passing makes it permanent but he is likely at peace so this is a helpful forward step. Rest in peace, John!

It did not take long after John’s retirement that he joined the Summit Old Guard. It was a great decision that benefited him-- but more so the Old Guard. It turned out to be a perfect fit that carried over into the activities of every day life, and made retirement a blessing for all he touched for so many years.. He was of a strong mind, built on a foundation of intellect, loyalty, experience, and a willingness to share his wisdom with any one who needed help. He surely enhanced my life.

John will be missed. I have known John for over twenty-five years and I worked for him for seven years. My experience has been that John has always been supportive of me both at work and during our retirement as members of the Summit Old Guard. John would go out of his way to help others and had an ability to effectively discuss any subject on a moment's notice. My condolences to his sister and nephews whom he loved very much.
