Johnathan and I never met our real grandfathers as they passed away long before we were born. Benny was just like a Nonno to us. Not a day will go by where we won't think of his smile or the stories he would share of his youth in South America, Italy, and other places he had traveled to. Benny was a renaissance man. I don't think there was something he didn't know, didn't experience, or didn't do. He was always there to provide advice and share that old Italian wisdom I will carry with me forever. I remember the times he would let me down to his basement as a kid and play with his piano, and then he would get me ice every time I got my fingers caught in the fall board. I remember the times I would come out to the backyard of my Nonna's house and he would teach me how to use the barbeque. I'll also remember the times we would have Easter and other holidays at his house, or he would come over to ours and light up a room with his presence. It seemed like whenever there was an important event in my life, Benny was either always there, or always being the first person to call. We never had a grandfather and he was the closest person to it. My brother and I will miss listening to him, hearing his joyful voice, and experiencing what it was like to be around someone with such a warm heart. He taught us that life isn't about being complicated or wasting time being sad, but it is about being positive and making others laugh. It's not often you meet someone like Benny, but when you do you cherish the moments with them for the rest of your life. Ti voglio tanto bene Benny. Johnathan and I will miss you and keep you right in our hearts until the end of time.

I have many fond memories but most of all I remember how you always gave good advice. I know my dad always reached out to you when he needed advice on making a big purchase. A funny memory from the early 90s was when my dad wanted to buy a new car. I had the pleasure of tagging along with them on a tour of car dealerships in NY, NJ and even one in PA. Uncle Benny did most of the negotiating and we eventually ended up back at the 2nd place we visited for the final purchase. I sat in the back seat the whole time and had a lot of laughs.
This photo was taken back in 2009 at my son Chris’ baptism. It includes two of my favorite uncles. Sadly uncle Victor is no longer with us as well. RIP uncle Benny. You will be missed.

I’ve been crying since you left us. There isn’t enough words in the English language to describe your kind and caring way. To know you was such a privilege and an honor. You made me feel like your own daughter. You shared words of wisdom and I listened always. I know you are safe now. I know that my mommy will greet you and ask you to fill her in on the last 18 months. I wish you peace and I take comfort that god will wrap his arms around you and you will be our new guardian angel. I will love you forever and miss you always. Xoxo

Miss you so much grandpa. Our conversations meant everything to me. I remember when I would look out my window and see you pull up to my house, you would always have bags upon bags of delicious foods and treats. I remember when I would come stay with you and we would always take walks on beautiful days in the summertime. I remember when we would go out to the movies and then after to go eat at any diner we could possibly find. I always enjoyed the many funny stories you would tell me about when you were growing up. I remember when you would play the accordion and I would play the piano and would have a good jam now and again. I guess you are the initial reason that so much of our family has any musical talent at all. I still can’t believe you are gone, but I will always have the many voice messages you left me so I will never forget you or the sound of joy from your voice when you found out that your family was coming to visit. I hope you are happy and at peace and hope to meet you someday again. Thank you for keeping my childhood lively and plentiful. Life will not be the same without you now, but I will continue to pass on the many wonderful stories I have of you when I have a family of my own someday. Rest In Peace.

I had the pleasure of knowing mr colella . I would drop off fillets after fishing trips with his son Phil ... he always had a smile a sense of humor and a story or two to tell ... I liked the stories ... he would ask if I wanted a few Parmesans from the tree and send me home with a full bag ... I think he would have given me the whole tree ... he had made a family fishing trip on the boat with the family ... he fished hard had food for everybody and a story or two ... I liked the stories ... it was a pleasure to spend one time with him ... my family sends its sympathies to all his loved ones .. our prayers will also be with him and his family ... skippy and family

"Be happy and Be positive" were words of wisdom and virtues that Benny lived by and shared all the time with me and my family. I will always cherish these words and all the many wonderful memories we have shared as a family. Benny was a father to me after losing my own dad at the age of 12 and he was a true family man with a kind and loving heart. I am eternally grateful for all he has done for me and my family. He brought smiles, love and laughter to us all...I will miss you very much Benny and you will forever be in our hearts with much love.
Love Always,
Elisa

Benny was a big part of my childhood. I have known Benny since I was around 9 ( 54 years) . Lots of great memories from him leaving me and Phil at the movie theater for probably 10 hours. Watching him change the reels in the projection room to eating over the house so many times. He was always a sweet man and funny. He loved his boys and it always showed. He will be missed . My grandfather was special because he had a huge amount of love in his heart and his sense of duty and honor for people he cared about made him very well loved by many people. I'm sure the impact he left on me is felt by many people who had the pleasure to know him as well as I did. I hope some of you feel inclined to share the memories you have with him here, if you can; he loved to reminisce and tell stories!
