Obituary of Mercilia Dussap
On April 14, 1932, our beloved Mercilia Dussap “Choune” was born in a small town (Ravine-A Charles) Jeremie, Haiti.
Mercilia was the eldest of her mother’s six children. All of whom preceded her in death. Her only surviving sibling, on her father’s side, is her brother Ablamy Dussap.
Mercilia moved to the United States on February 18, 2000 to reunite with her two daughters, Yanick & Odile. She worked endless hours for many years as a nanny, in order to have her other remaining five children join her in America.
She met the love of her life Guiglermo Vilari and on December 18, 2005 they got married. They enjoyed many happy years together until he passed away on September 25th 2010.
Mercilia was a courageous, loving mother and a woman of profound faith. She was charismatic with a warm heart. She made everyone who encountered her feel loved. Her loved ones can attest to her loving nature and generosity.
She left behind a host of family and loved ones.
Her seven remaining children: Alourdes, Odile, Yanick, Alexander, Marie Helene, Carmelle and Edelyne.
She was a loving grandmother to her 25 grandchildren: Romel, Bernadin, Carmelo, Jenny, Patrick, McDaniel, Sherley Barbara, Fabianah, Lyndjy, Tracey, Alexandra, Christele, Lauryne, Jonathan, Avens, Angelo, McHenry, Carmelo, Chouna, Soukaina, Davidson, Berlens, Julian and Edzaria.
Mercilia was blessed with 16 great grandchildren.
She left to mourn her beloved cousin “Tante” Sylvia Legagneur and her children who she helped raise.
Her sister in law Madeleine Dussap and her family, and her sister in law Marie Marthe Theolien and her family.
Choune was loved by all of her nieces, nephews, extended relatives and a host of friends both in Haiti and America.
Forever in Our Hearts
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May Mercilia's soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
