Obituary of Peter Lo

Peter Michael Lo was born on September 6, 1979 in Brooklyn, NY.  He departed this life on February 28th, 2021 in Christiansted, St. Croix, doing exactly what he did best... living life to the fullest.

His Brooklyn childhood was filled with days of basketball at the park, forced school work, countless family parties, outings with friends, and excitedly chasing the Mr. Softee ice cream truck in the summer.  A frequent sound could be heard around the neighborhood of “Peter Miiichael!” as he was called by his mother and close relatives.

Upon graduation from Goucher College in Towson, MD in 2001, Peter was encouraged by his mentor and former homeroom teacher to use his exceptional people skills to teach at his junior high school alma mater, Cunningham. After that year, he likely gained a bit more grey hair than he bargained for and fled further than any that knew him could have imagined.  In 2003, Peter was hired by General Electric as an Applications Technician in Polyurethane foams.  No one, including Peter, realized this move to West Virginia would set the stage for his career and life where he prospered for 16 years.  

In West Virginia, Peter grew into adulthood, made many wonderful friends, and increased his love of adventure. He quickly assimilated to country life by buying a pick-up truck and shotgun in his first weeks there. He also started to explore his innumerable hobbies. Peter was an avid hunter, fisherman, sailor, scuba diver, snowboarder, basketball player, guitarist, drummer, chef, bbq aficionado, woodworker, fantasy football commissioner, chauffeur, mover for all, competitive eater, globe trotter, and home repairman. His zest for life was only matched by his love and willingness to spontaneously and unconsciously do anything for his family and friends. Close seconds were his NY Giants’ fanaticism and his appetite and appreciation for food, especially dishes that conjured memories of his pan-cultural childhood including dim sum, pastrami and chopped liver, pastina, and his godmother, Aunt Mabel’s sticky rice patties. Any steaks larger than 48 oz. were also a must.

Peter had a huge grin of a smile, infectious warmth, and an incredible sense of humor that could make even the most seemingly stoic person burst out into laughter. It was a combination of dry wit and timely narrative with commentary. His body, particularly his shoulder, would frequently play a role in his unique form of “physical comedy”. Peter was extremely relatable and had a large capacity and desire to understand people from all walks of life. If Peter ever questioned how you were doing something, he would simply “Pete” your process and make it better or just do it for you. Lastly, Pete lived life as it was meant to be lived, carefree and full of love for others. 

He is survived by his beloved siblings, Mathieu and Maureen as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Peter was a beloved Godfather to Arianna, Penelope, Preston, Alexa, Maddox, and many others in practice. Beloved Godson to Mabel and Charles (Butch), he also leaves behind numerous close friends around the world.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents Genevieve and Pak Hai (Peter) and his grandparents. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all that were lucky enough to know him.

The visitation for Peter Lo will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home on Friday, March 12, 2021, from 4:00 - 9:00 PM. There will be a service of personal reflections on Friday at 8:00 PM. If you wish to virtually attend, please follow the zoom details below:

The Funeral will take place on Saturday, March 13, 2021. The family will be meeting at the funeral home by 8:30 AM. The funeral procession will depart at 9:30 AM. The Committal Service will be held at St. Charles Cemetery.
