I am sorry to read of Arts passing in the UFOA Trumpet. I had the pleasure of working with Art at headquarters as we wound down our careers, me a very young Chief and Art a very senior chief. Always loved his great big smile and his talk of what he would do when retired. When he debriefed for my 9/11 interview, I was surprised to learn he was only a hundred yards or so away from my location during the south tower collapse. Condolences to his family who Im sure I met when we had our retirement party together. BC Steve Grabher Ret. & Family

Very sorry to learn of the passing of Artie. I first met Artie when I was assigned as a Covering Officer in Brooklyn. He was an extremely professional and dedicated Fire Chief. He always displayed great concern for the safety and well being of the members under his command. I'll always remember our conversations about the experiences of being a kid growing up in Brooklyn. Artie will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Bill Canner Phoenix, AZ. Retired FDNY

My condolences to Arthur's many family and friends. Arthur was the first brother to welcome me to the NYC Fireriders Motorcycle Club and was always at attendance for events I was involved with. Arthur was there to help out with Iron and Steel from the World Trade Center Escorts, T2T Motorcycle events and fund raisers. Especially the Tunnel to Towers 5K races over the years always offering to lend a hand. You served the citizens of NYC proudly with an outstanding career in the Fire Department of NY. I wish to extend my gratitude to Arthur's family for sharing his life with us. Sincerely, George Shea, Retired FDNY.

The Schroeder family sends our condolences to my best buddy Barbara, and the Lakiotes family. Artie will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The City of New York owes Artie and fellow first responders a debt of gratitude for their unselfish sacrifices to serve and protect "all" citizens.
I met Artie when he first started dating Barbara. We broke bread together many times in my Sheepshead Bay bungalow. When our daughter Heather was born Artie got the wonderful idea to paint the interior of the bungalow, a few beers later and it looked great, Kathy was both happy and surprised when she arrived home from the hospital with Heather.
Then I moved the family to Ft Lauderdale, Florida in 1971. Artie and Barbara were frequent and very welcomed guests at our house. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the snow storms in Brooklyn. I'll always remember dropping them off at Miami International and getting a call in the early, early morning - they were back in Miami due to the snow storm in NYC. So many wonderful memories.
With all our love, Tommy and Carole

The MacLellan family offers our condolences to Barbara, Nick, Stacy, Johnathan, James, his brother and all of Art's most precious grandchildren.
Art was a friend that was like no other. He was family to us and to Billy and I he was more than that. We loved him so much that most of our dinners either at home or in a restaurant were with him, Dinners were usually at our house, New Corners or Chadwick's. The road trips were the best! He was our right hand man to us and our family.
At one time I was jealous since he got to spend more time in our Condo in Fort Lauderdale than I (Serena) did. We always referred to the guest room as "Art's Room". I will never forget the time he had to rush me to the emergency room at Lenox Hill Hospital while Billy was out of town. There was no one else I would think to call that I could depend on that would be there in a minute.
Thank you to the Lakiotes family for sharing Art with us for he brought joy and happiness to our family. Billy and I hearts are broken for we will miss him, but we know that he will Rest in Peace. Love Billy and Serena

Art and I were both appointed to the FDNY on October 19, 1968. We would occasionally cross paths throughout our careers . He would always greet me with that great smile, something I will always remember.
When I was promoted to Chief of Safety, Art was the executive officer of the safety command. How fortunate I was to have such an experienced and knowledgeable chief to be the second in command. Although I was his boss, I always considered him an equal partner, and more importantly a friend. I often sought his expertise and guidance in my decision making process.
Shortly went through some tough times. The Fathers Day fire with the loss of three firefighters, and then the ultimate tragedy, September 11, 2001. The days and months following 9/11 Art was the on scene coordinator for the Safety Battalion at the collapse site. Long and exhausting hours, both physically and emotionally, he never once complained.
After retirement we would always talk on the anniversary of 9/11, and occasionally meet for lunch where he expressed the love for his family and grandchildren. He was so thrilled at being a Grandfather. I will miss those talks. More importantly I will miss him.
Rest in peace my friend.
Al Turi
