Dear Grandpa,
You mean so much to me. You were my grandpa, my father and my friend. I miss you so deeply. I’ll miss our dates to Target and lunch at Applebees where you insist that I order your food but then would always get the same thing every time. I’ll miss sneaking you gummy bears that we knew you shouldn’t be eating. I’ll miss you beating me mercilessly in checkers. I’ll miss your hand-crushing handshakes and your cheek kisses and hugs. You were the best grandpa a girl could ask for. You know I would lasso the moon for you. I love you my grandpa-pa.
XOXO
Your Nickeema K

Dad, I loved you so much the depth you likely never knew. I feel like I could have told you in more unmistakable ways should you ever had any doubts. You may not have had the best education in life but I was always humbled by your intellect and infinite wisdom. We played Dominoes and Draft and I never found a way to match your skills. Your strength was truly admired. You were a humble giant. You were my compass that helped me navigate through some of my most difficult moments in my life. You shared many things with me that were deeply personal for you as did I with you. Despite all you never lost your Smile and Zest for life. I emulated and most of your attributes. Because of you I am who I am.
You always remembered my birthday dad and you usually were the first to call me and wish me happy birthday. I will never forget that.
Your motto often was “for peace sake" in an effort to oust the flames of sibling disputes. Your youthfulness was contagious and this you passed along to us all you gave the name YOUNG. God gave a long years 93 and they were lived well.
You built our first home from ground up with your own hands in Jamaica with your strength and determination.
You gave your life to the service of God and others from Escarpment Road Church of God in Jamaica, to East Flatbush Church of God soon after you migrated to New York on December 22, 1976 and then most recently the Rhema Church of God.
I remember back in Jamaica witnessing when you and others dug a deep sewer pit by hand and shovel at Escarpment Road Church of God. You broke the ground then dug till you reach water. It must have been at least 20 feet deep because it was at least 4 times your height. I remember gasping when rocks you were stacking rattled above your head causing everyone to fear for your life. I must have been 9 or 10 years old at the time. I remember they served everyone bully beef sandwiches and beverages which I also got and enjoyed. You were always making great sacrifices for all.
I remember following your example wearing a necktie to church borrowing some of yours that were too long for me. I recall falling asleep in church as a young kid waking up to see my necktie sweeping the floor.
I distinctly remember when you gave up smoking. You told me at the time that you gave your life to God and made the decision to give up smoking. I recall how you cared for us all by yourself in Jamaica for a few years when mom came to the USA to pave the way for all of us to later join her here. A chance for a better life for us all.
Dad, your loss is one of the most earth shattering experiences in my life. It is like all the air is sucked from my lungs leaving a deep empty abyss. Everything you were will live long several generations ahead of us all. Your spirit will hover over us all to guide and protect us. God Rest Your Soul In Peace and Comfort Dad. Adolphus Alexander Young.

My memories of Brother A.Young are that he is very respectful, kind, supportive and true genuine Christian. A true worshiper with a praise that can be felt deep within. A believer who loves God, his family and church. Brother Young loves to share with you his passion and love for Christ whenever he gets a chance. He is not shy about his relationship with Christ Jesus. A beautiful and precious soul. Wow…I will miss him. Praise the Lord he is in the arms of sweet deliverance. My prayers are with the Young’s family. A life well lived.
