Obituary of Elizabeth T. Magee
Elizabeth Magee, 84 of Brooklyn, New York, passed away November 19, 2022.
Betty, as she was known, was born on the family farm in Kilsallagh, County Longford Ireland on December 4, 1937. She is the daughter of the late Patrick and Anne (nee Heavey) Marshall. She is survived by her brothers Sean Marshall of Ireland, Michael Marshall of England and her sister Bridget Fagan of England. Cherished Mother to Art Magee (Leslie), Mike Magee (Tracey) and Ann Magee and adoring Grandmother to Kayla, Megan, Ryan and Hailey. She is also beloved by countless cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives located in Ireland, England, Australia, New Zealand and throughout the U.S. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Arthur Magee.
Upon graduating from nursing school in London, she came to New York in 1962 with short-term plans to work in the U.S., before settling in Australia. Her plans were thwarted when she met her future husband and they married in Brooklyn in 1964. She developed a real love for her adopted home of Brooklyn and spent the next 37 years working as a registered nurse at Kings Highway Hospital while raising her family.
Although Brooklyn was her adopted home, her heart always remained in her native Ireland. She returned home frequently to visit family and friends and would stay at the same thatched roof cottage where she was born and raised. Each trip to Ireland was often filled with gardening and other projects to upgrade the home for herself and for future generations to enjoy. Nothing brought her more joy than having friends and family visit her at the cottage, where a warm fire, a glass of wine and traditional Irish music made every visit memorable.
Forever In Our Hearts
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May Betty's soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
