Obituary of Virginia Rup
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Virginia M. Rup, 67, who passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 2, 1955, in Brooklyn, NY, to Joseph and Geraldine Murphy. Ginny, as she is known by everyone, graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas grade school in 1969, and Catherine McAuley High School in 1973. During high school, she decided she wanted to be a nurse and immediately upon graduation, started studies at Kings County Nursing School where she received her R.N. While working at Kings Highway Hospital (now known as Beth Israel), she continued her nursing education and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Administration from St. Francis College. She spent her entire career as an R.N. and Nursing Supervisor at Kings Highway Hospital.
In 1977, Ginny married the love of her life, Gregory T. Rup, with whom they share three children - Colette, Gregory (Buddy), and Christian. Ginny also had three beautiful grandchildren with whom she doted over excessively at every opportunity - Gregory (Little Bud), Nolan, and Frankie. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt who spent her entire life caring for her family. As a true matriarch for the Rup family household (and the steam engine that kept our house running), she will be sorely missed by each of us.
Ginny was one of seven Murphy children born in the Marine Park neighborhood of Brooklyn where she and her family continue to reside. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph (Joe-Bob) and Geraldine Murphy, Greg’s parents, Anne and Andrew Rup, her sisters Margaret McKenna and Patricia McManus, her brother-in-law’s, Kenneth and John Rup, and nephews James and Joseph Walter.
Ginny is survived by her husband Greg, her children and their spouses, Colette, Buddy and Theresa and Christian and Jenn, her grandchildren, Little Bud, Nolan and Frankie. She is also survived by her siblings and their families, Robert and Donna (Wade) Murphy, Mary Jane Murphy, Ann and Robert Walter, Colette Murphy, her sister-in-law and her family, Debra (Rup) and Marc Spyliopulos. She is also survived by countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
May you rest in eternal peace, Ginny. Memories of you will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew you from Marine Park, STA, CMCA, nursing schools, the hospital and of course, Breezy Point Surf Club.
