Robert P Hansen lit a candle

I was part of what would be the last class of young people she would teach. My name is Robert P Hansen but like all people who loved me she called me Robbie I was 8 1/2 years old. I loved Mary and she she loved me. She was the stability because my life was so unstable at home. When I tried to tell her just what a mess my life was she couldn’t believe it. She would not believe it. She wouldn’t believe it because she couldn’t see or think ill of anyone. She taught me piano from age 8 1/2 till I was 25. Now at 16 and not a minute before hand she taught me voice. At 25 she said what are you using more. I was living on my own and couldn’t afford both. So as I looked for stag work ( she never knew) she was everything to me. She never gave a compliment just to be nice. If she gave you a compliment it was because you put the work into it. She always knew. I told her I wanted to go on stage she said: don’t tell anyone that I told you I wanted give you support. Your to gentle and I think they will destroy you. That lite a fire under my ass . She also said if one little thing keeps you from your so called dream then you don’t have the wherewithal to stick it out. I was going to prove her wrong. Yes it was rough but other jobs could be just as nasty as in show business, sometimes even more. I finally got my Equity card. At 40 I was going star in a road preformance of Carousel by Richad Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein playing Billy Bigelow. I called her on the phone wile on the road. She was so proud. She never knew I cried. She was the one who I most wanted to make proud. I was to old but I looked 30. I loved Mary so much

A TRIBUTE…
This is a tribute to a woman I considered to be my adopted-mom, mentor, coach, friend, and family.
Her name was Mary Lyons. I met Mary when I was 12 years old.
Once upon time, my dad was looking for a vocal teacher to properly train me as a singer. Honestly, I didn’t think I could sing but everyone thought I could sing including Mary. I auditioned at Mary’s house when I was 12 years old and she said, “ Mr. Cardenales I can train her to sing. “. My dad said, “Do you think she can be famous one day?” Mary smiled and said, I can’t really answer that question. I will work with her. She definitely can sing.” Mary took me under her wings. She taught me how to sing. She trained me to sing Standards. She trained me to be a Cantor. Mary mold me along with my mom and dad on how to be a good person. She introduced The Lord’s Word to me through song. Mary has also been a vocal and piano teacher to my sister, Jackie, my niece, Kathleen,my daughter, Lisa, and my son, Mark. She was always loving and caring to my family. I so appreciated Mary. There’s more to this story but all I can say is that we have been truly blessed to have Mary Lyons in our lives.
Here’s Mary Lyons Bio on the OCP website…
“Mary Lyons was an accomplished singer, pianist, lector and teacher. She attended Juilliard and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and debuted professionally at Carnegie Hall as a coloratura soprano at the age of 20. She sang three solo recitals at Carnegie Hall and performed with several large orchestras, including the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra under Leonard Bernstein.
Mary broadened her scope of expertise many years ago when she became a lector. For over 20 years, she has been training lectors in the Diocese of Brooklyn. "Being a lector and having the privilege of proclaiming God's Word is something that defies description," Mary said. "No words can explain what it means to say 'The Word of the Lord,' and to realize that I have the awesome responsibility and tremendous opportunity to verbalize God's word, and thereby bring it to life for the congregation." Mary is the author of The Lector: Effective Delivery of the Word.”
Thank you, Mary!!! We love you so much. We’re going to miss you dearly. However, we know you are in a great place with my mom… singing, dancing talking, and in joy with The LORD! ♥️
Mary Lyons graduated yesterday morning!
I love you, Mary!!!♥️♥️♥️

I will love you forever, Mary. In praise and Thanksgiving to God, I will sing on and remember you with each note. Thank you for helping me to find my voice and to share the wonderful gift of song. You will live on in each of us. Hugs to Heaven.

I was so blessed to have Marvelous Mary as my friend. I will miss talking to her every Wednesday at 12:00.
I will treasure her detailed stories about our family, she knew my grandmothers and family when they lived in New York. I remember her stories about her beloved parents, family, teaching, pupils, the Lincoln Center, church, nuns, priests, friends and Christina.
Even though we were not blood relatives we had a special and joyful connection. I am sure she is with my beloved Uncle Ed (Mary's first cousin) in heaven. I feel "Angel Mary" will be watching over me, her friends and pupils.
Love and prayers, Pat Rogers Frank

Mary and me—El Caribe at “Mary’s 90th Birthday Bash”. I started studying voice with Mary when I was 12 years old and was one of her first students. Will miss and love her always.

Mary Lyons was a beautiful woman who gave so much of herself. I studied voice with her for close to twenty years. She would regale her students with stories of her Carnegie Hall debut and how her parents supported her music career. She would fundraise through the concerts she put together that I was proud to be a part of. She was so proud of her students and loved to share their accomplishments with all her students. She loved the church and dedicated her life to doing all she could to praise God. She was a published author and would update me frequently on her progress on the guide for lecters. She lived a long life doing what she loved. We should all be so lucky. I’m happy she is at peace.
