Obituary of Vicsia Smith
Vicsia Smith departed from this earthly realm on June 9, 2023, following a brave and enduring battle with advanced Gallbladder cancer. She was 75 years old. Despite her long struggle with illness, Vicsia demonstrated an unwavering spirit. Her resilience and perseverance remained steadfast, embodying an inspiration to us all. Her departure does not signify a lost battle, for Vicsia never stopped fighting.
Vicsia was born in Thomassin, Haiti, the daughter of Victoire Jean and Justin Smith. Her siblings include Rosita Smith, Lionel, Jean Robert Smith, Ronald Smith and Emilia Smith, a sibling who predeceased her. Vicsia was a loving mother to Schadrac Smith and a cherished aunt to 30 nieces and nephews.
She completed her high school education in 1966 at 'Chez les soeurs de St Vincent de Paul', before continuing her studies in Nursing from 1967 - 1974. Her illustrious career includes serving as the Head Nurse at St Vincent de Paul from 1975 - 1989, and then as a teacher from 1975 - 1981. Vicsia and her partner Raynold welcomed their son, Schadrac, in 1989. She later worked at Centre Eliazard Germain from 1989 - 1999 as the head nurse and teacher for Matrons.
In 1996, Vicsia was a partner in 'Foyer de la Nouvelle Vie', an orphanage where she provided compassionate care to abandoned and destitute children until 2010. This became a testament to her dedication and love for the most vulnerable in society.
She was recognized as the very first Nurse in Thomassin, Haiti, a position that earned her the respect usually accorded to a doctor. Vicsia traveled extensively across France, Belgium, and Holland for children's annual parties, exemplifying her selfless dedication to others.
In memory of Vicsia, we celebrate not only her remarkable life achievements but also the light she cast on those around her. Vicsia’s legacy of resilience, selflessness, and love will continue to inspire and guide us.
Forever In Our Hearts
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May Vicsia's soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
