Helen was one of the most important and influential persons of my teaching career at Berkeley Carroll School. We spent twenty-five years together there. Those years saw the school grow from a small neighborhood place to one of the premier educational institutions of New York City. From the reception desk in the front lobby and her admin office next to the divisional director, Helen presided over the Lower School, managing faculty, students and parents with grace, wisdom and good humor.
We depended on her for –well– everything.
Through many changes of leadership, she was our constant – our North Star.
We got to know each other well and shared the agonies and ecstasies of our respective families. I was fortunate to call her my friend as well as colleague.
Godspeed Helen, you were so loved.
