Obituary of Celina Belmonte

Celina (Castellanos) Belmonte, 101 years old, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Norwegian Christian Home & Health Center in Brooklyn, New York. She was the widow of Pascual Belmonte.

Celina was born in Arcabuco, Colombia on September 1, 1921, to her late parents, Maria Guerrero and Obdulio Castellanos. Celina lived in a convent while in Colombia up until 1943 when she came to America at the age of 22. While in New York, she began working for the Jolis family as a governess raising their four boys. She traveled all across Europe with the Jolis family and lived with them briefly in Paris where she learned all the culinary secrets from world-class chefs. Celina retired from being a governess after she fell in love with her soulmate, Pascual, whom she married in 1957. She had two children, John Patrick Belmonte and Rosemarie Belmonte, whom she loved with all of her heart. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to her two beautiful granddaughters.

Celina shared her love for all through her cooking and was easily the world’s best chef. She had a wicked sense of humor and enjoyed playing tricks on her loved ones every April Fool’s Day. Celina lived a long and beautiful life, filled with adventures. Her absence is felt but her memory lives forever. She will truly be missed.

Celina joins her beloved husband, Pascual Belmonte, her son, John Patrick Belmonte, and her daughter-in-law, April “Mary” Belmonte, in heaven. Celina is survived by her daughter, Rosemarie, and her two granddaughters, Danielle and Christina Severe.

Reposing Sunday July 30, 2023 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:00 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home, 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn.

Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday July 31, 2023 at St. Brendan’s R.C Church, 1525 E 12th St, Brooklyn, NY 11230.

Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Red Bank, NJ.
