Mrs Roche was like a second mother to me growing up. As a child I admired her so much for being an amazing wife and Mother. When she went back to school for nursing I admired her even more. I just wish I saw her more. She will be missed by many. Love Valerie Favreau (Borthwick)

I was in 4th grade when cousin Sheila came to New York City. Weekly, she visited us overnight on her day off from work. She was the big sister I never had. After school she would walk my brother and I down to Woolworth’s for a soft ice cream. We would pressure her to buy us a toy soldier or a small racing car. She was too kind to say no.
I remember her reading Mom the letters she received from her boyfriend, soon to be fiancée, Jimmie, who was on active duty in the Air Force. I was the altar boy for their wedding!
Jimmie and Sheila were regulars in our household after their marriage. Dinners with Uncle Jack and Aunt Nora.
After our father passed away in 1965 Jimmie and Sheila stepped up big time to help Mom shepherd us through the formative years of our young lives. No person ever gave me better advice than Jimmie. His guidance set me up on my way through my business career and, oh, how I loved to chat with him about life’s journey.
Eileen and I shared so many happy times with Sheila snd Jimmie. The Family dinner at Gaelic Park when the Kerry footballers came to town with Sheila’s Dad, our Uncle Denis, evenings out at an Irish Pub, Irish events.
Sheila set such a great example of motherly love, raising 7 Children and then gaining her RN license at the age of 50. We were so proud of her achievements. She was a true Donnelly ..strong, with a great passion for family and always with a wonderful sense of humor and words of encouragement. I am so thankful to have had her in my life….. My “Irish Sister”.

I feel so blessed and fortunate to have met and known Mrs. Roche. I remember when I first moved next door to the Roche family. As a new kid on the block my sister Anna and I became fast friends with the Roche kids. My mom also became good lifelong friends with Mrs. Roche. Mrs. Roche treated my sister and I like family. She was truly an angel and inspiration to me. She taught me values about education and family. I will always remember her kindness, compassion and love. She inspired me to go to nursing school and become a nurse. I Always felt like Mrs. Roche was an angel that God sent into my life.I have so many wonderful memories that I will cherish always of Mrs. Roche and the Roche family. Whenever, I pass by Manhattan beach, I will always think of you.
Love always,
Tina Scarpa

Sheila and my mother were dear friends. I remember early childhood family visits full of love and laughter. Mother passed last year. These women were models of Christian values. God Bless.

I was so fortunate to meet "Aunt" Sheila when I was a little boy...late 50's. Sheila would visit us at our apartment at 555 West 184th street in Manhattan. I can still recall her laughter as she and my mom spent the night chatting away in their strong Irish brogues.... The old record player played the Irish tunes, and it just went on all night.
Soon she brought us a special gift...Jimmy Roche...and the floor took a pounding as Jimmy danced with Mom and Shiela.
It was pure fun, family fun, feeling a closeness that can be rare in this life. For whatever reason we didn't have a great deal of contact with cousins in New York.......But Sheila & Jimmy were "Top-Shelf! " We were with Family every time we were with Sheila & Jimmy. It was a special time...a special Loving relationship.
As I grew older, I visited their apartment in Brooklyn....Dennis started the parade of seven children, and those nights were filled with love, laughter and "learning the ropes " from Jimmy.
As a full-fledged hippie in the 60"s the one family that always took me in, supported me, made me feel accepted was Sheila & Jimmy. Never did they ever not give me unconditional LOVE. They stuck with me and helped move me into adulthood.
Thank You Aunt Shiela (she was my cousin but we affectionally called her aunt.) Thank you for the love & support.
Until that time when our spirits will again be united...May God shower you with Blessings Much Love, Danny & Gladys

We were so lucky to have been close to Sheila as cousins we all immigrated here, her from Ireland us from England, but we kept in close contact even though we lived in different States. Whenever we came to New York Sheila was always so gracious and let us stay with her and so kind. Say Hi to Peg for us as we know your going to heaven and will meet her. God Bless you. We love you.
