Obituary of Thomas Joseph Caporale
Thomas Joseph Caporale was born on December 2, 1922, in downtown Brooklyn. The only child of Angelo and Dorothy, he joined the army at the start of World War 2 and served in the Philippines. After the war he escorted fallen soldiers back to their hometown for burial.
He married Emily Mauro in 1950 and together they spent five years stationed in West Germany where their first daughter Cynthia was born. He served twenty-five years in the army and worked another twenty-five years as a civilian at the Eighth Medical Brigade at Fort Hamilton.
Thomas was the proud and loving father of Cynthia, Lydia (deceased), Thomas P. and Emily and father-in-law of Ellen and Jeff. He doted on his grandsons Thomas W. and William. He is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. He was a kind, smart, generous man who was blessed with many friends and neighbors whom he loved and enjoyed.
He loved animals and supported many charities. He adopted a senior cat named Ladybug in 2018 that he adored. His passion was playing tennis with his buddies and watching tennis with his children. He is at rest after a long, interesting, and well-travelled life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of his favorite charities including the ASPCA, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Smile Train, and the Gary Sinise Foundation.
