Elise and John’s family made John’s funeral Mass truly inspirational to me, and I’m sure to the many others who attended. I’ve known John since his 1st arrival to Downstate 30 or so years ago, and indeed I shall miss John’s ever-vibrant positive presence and dedicated contributions in service that he he shared with all of us at Downstate EVERY DAY. Our loss of John remains unfathomable. With sincere sympathy to Elise and his family as well as all who shared the honor of knowing John,

To the Zubrovich family and many adoring friends…
I met John at Downstate while aspiring to combine my medical knowledge as a Physician Assistant and Assistant Professor at the PA Program, with prior broadcasting experience. To do so, John gave permission for me to work with Luke and Luis to develop my skills, ultimately producing Health Center shows under the tutelage of Dr. Deas, interviewing students at Commencement and White Coat Ceremonies and numerous editing projects.
I am forever grateful to John for allowing me such a rich experience with the Media Department. He was always kind, had a great smile and warm demeanor. Although I was not an official member of his department, John made me feel as if I was; and it became the place I most wanted to be, when not regularly working. He gave me an opportunity to fulfill a void in my aspirations and contribute in a special way to the students and CHRP overall, making lasting memories for all through media. John’s work was his passion; and, I am thankful to have shared many years knowing him and seeing how he loved what he did everyday.
John has left a legacy at work and love with family and friends that will go on forever. He is missed.

My God, John was such a great guy. He would do anything for his family and friends. I'm still in utter disbelief about his passing. John was an awesome husband, father, friend. A real gem. I'll miss sitting at our decks with our wives and friends and kicking it back over a glass of wine and an occasional cigar.
John was the true definition of a Rennaisance man - witty, well rounded and so artistic. Always down to earth and always willing to help others. I will sorely miss him.
John, I will always remember you with such fondness.
Save us all a place in paradise buddy.
I'll bring the wine.

John was kind, caring, compassionate and full of joy. Being with him was easy. It was fun. It was a simple pleasure. He made you feel important. He listened. We laughed and shared quality times together. His heart shined. His smile lit up the room. John was a one of a kind friend. He will always be remembered with fond memories. And with forever love .

John was such a kind person. I haven’t seen him in years but anytime I thought of him I got that warm fuzzy feeling. That’s who he was: warm kind, easy to be with, someone who was comfortable and comforting to be with.
What a loss. What a void he leaves.
My condolences to the entire Zubrovitch family.

For 46 years, I've had the honor of being John's friend. We were both awkward freshman at Mater Christi and we became fast friends and remained so since 1977. John was unflappable. Consistently kind, caring and calm. He was all things to me - photographer, artist, fellow nerd, suffering Met fan, confidant, family man, my introduction to McSorley's. He was always way cooler than he thought he was. As I write this, I struggle to find the words to convey how much he meant to me and how I feel about him. My only solace is thinking about what life would have been if we hadn't met -- how much my life would not have been as enriched as it has been because of him. I love you my friend. You'll always will be with me. Elise, Alex and Julia, you're all constantly in my thoughts. Christine, Joe and Helena -- I'm so sorry. Love to you all.

I graduated with John from Mater Christi Catholic High School, class of 1981. We knew one another well enough to say we were friends but ran in different circles then. John was always a warm, welcoming, cordial and friendly guy towards me with a big smile whenever we met! He was likely the same with everyone with whom he interacted. My most consistent memory of John was him having his camera hanging from his neck, so it's fitting he became the Director of New Media Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, doing what he loved while displaying his talents. John's passing is truly a tragic loss to his immediate family, close friends, and our Mater Christi Class of '81 family. My prayers and condolences to the Zubrovich family and everyone who knew him...

I had the privilege of working with John on many occasions. He was very professional. Both his decisions and advice were solid. He brought a smile and willingness to adapt but always the trained eye. While I have been retired a few years now the news of his death brought both sadness for his family but also a fond memory. God Bless you and keep you in his hands

The passing of John leaves us deeply saddened. His tender presence and vibrant humor resonated with all who knew him. His profound intellect and kindness were especially apparent in his loving relationship with Elise, my cousin, and their exemplary nurturing of their two wonderful children. Remembering our last joyous encounter amplifies our grief at this loss. May his soul find eternal serenity. He will be sincerely missed by everyone whose lives he touched.

What could I say about my dear Brother-In-Law John? He would always light up a room when he entered. Never a sign of anger. Always willing to laugh. He even would laugh at MY jokes, a club that has few members. We always enjoyed the Zubrovich family at Christmas Eve, every year, and he was right in the middle when we all took turns, singing “ The 12 days of Christmas”. Loved his gadgetry . A lot of little boy still in him at the time of his passing. A fiercely loyal husband, father, uncle, brother-in-law and friend to MANY. Universally loved my MANY. Just a great guy. Hard to comprehend his untimely passing. He will be greatly missed.
