Obituary of Gerald Atwood

Gerald Atwood, age 89, of Brooklyn, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

Mr. Atwood was born June 23, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York. He is the son of the late Louis P. and the late Elizabeth (Ruck) Atwood. 

He valiantly served our country in the army during the Korean War. Beloved husband of Elaine M. (Kenny) Atwood. Gerald and Elaine were childhood sweethearts who lived just a couple of blocks from each other, eventually residing just a driveway's distance apart. They were married at their home parish of Mary Queen of Heaven Roman Catholic Church on July 16, 1955, celebrating 69 beautiful years together. Beloved father of John Atwood (Marie), Jane Duffy (John), Gregory Atwood (Katie), the late Raymond Atwood, the late Gerald T. Atwood (Barbara) and the late Elaine M. Atwood. Cherished brother of the late John Atwood, the late Robert Atwood and the late Laurie Atwood.

 

Gerald was a man of great strength and generosity, serving as the rock for his family. He was known for his stoicism and his unwavering support for those around him. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he was the person the entire family turned to in times of need. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, and his presence will be deeply missed.

 

May Gerald Atwood rest in eternal peace, his memory cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

 

Reposing on Friday April 5, 2024 from 4:00 – 9:00 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home, 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn.

 

Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday April 6, 2024 at Mary Queen of Heaven R.C. Church, 1395 East 56th Street, Brooklyn. 

 

Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn.
