James P. was a very close friend of mine as I was assigned to him by Lt.Vinny Fowler to group 17 in 108 Truck on Seigel Street in 1970 when I got out of probie school. Jim taught me the ins and outs of truck work and I learned between the right and wrong ways to properly do things as a truckie. He was a man with great respect to everyone. Jim will be sorely missed and I thank him for being the teacher/mentor/friend that he was. God Bless you James P. Rest well. Love Whitefish

True story: Three months ago I was working out in a gym in Western Colorado, wearing an FDNY sweatshirt. A guy came up to me and said "FDNY?". I told him I had been a fire alarm dispatcher in the 70's and 80's. He said "Do you know Jimmy McEnaney?". How many thousands of firefighters served in FDNY during that time and since? And 2200 miles away! I was pleased to answer that, yes, I knew Jim. And, once again, we have evidence that Jim stood out in the crowd. He stood out in his roles as husband, father, co-worker and storyteller (I once told him that if a sense of humor was a sign of intelligence then he was a genius). And he continues to stand out in peoples' memories. Debby and I are thinking of Pat and the girls. We were all so lucky to have known Jim.
